Teach students how to fly helicopters, for both the private and commercial licences

Flight instructor rating

If you already hold a Commercial Licence and have a minimum of 250 flight hours, you may be eligible to begin your Flight Instructor Rating (FIR). 

The FIR enables you to teach students how to fly helicopters, for both the private and commercial licences. 

Requirements: 

  • You must hold a commercial helicopter pilot licence

  • Have a minimum of 250 hours flying helicopters

  • Have completed the Single CASA FIR theory exam

  • Have completed an approved Principles and Methods of Instruction (PMI) course (this can be done through AIR T&G) 

  • Complete a minimum of 27 hours flight training and meet the CASA FIR(H) Syllabus and standards

  • Sit your FIR (Grade 3 training endorsement) flight test with an approved Flight Examiner
